How Did the Band Get Its Name?

The band's original name "The Quarrymen" was devised by John Lennon while he was a student at Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool.

In 1960 the name was changed to "The Silver Beetles". While on their first, disastrous tour of Germany they changed their name again to "The Beatles".

The name represented the band's adoption of what, at the time, was called "beat music".
